The base for the "PaLiS" lighting system is a square plastic form which contains two rechargeable dry cells, one battery recharger and space for a separate solar recharger. In the centre, there is a holder for a wired main post with connections from the batteries. The intent behind the concept is that the lighted patio umbrella can be disconnected from an external power source when the system is in use, and connected to a power source when the system is not in use. All compartments are designed to be water resistent when properly closed. The weight of the complete base precludes the need for extra ballast (e. g. water or sand).

Le système d'éclairage « PaLis » a pour élément de base une forme carrée en plastique contenant deux piles sèches rechargeables, un chargeur de batterie ainsi que l'espace nécessaire pour un chargeur solaire. Le centre de l'élément comprend un support pour poteau principal avec câbles électriques et connexions pour l'alimentation à partir des batteries. L'objet de l'invention est de permettre de déconnecter un parasol éclairé d'une source externe lorsque le système est en cours d'utilisation, et de le connecter à une source d'alimentation lorsque le système n'est pas en utilisation. Pourvu qu'ils soient correctement fermés, tous les compartiments sont à l'épreuve de l'eau. En raison du poids de la base, il n'est pas nécessaire d'utiliser une masse supplémentaire (p. ex. de l'eau ou du sable).
