PALLET BASE ASSEMBLY FOR A SHIPPING CONTAINER Abstract of the Disclosure A pallet base assembly for a shipping container, which includes a pallet base and two cargo supports mounted thereon. The two cargo supports are also utilized to form ramps for unload- ing the cargo from the base. Each cargo support includes a relatively flat support element providing a ramp surface when the support is used as a ramp and a cushioning element which is inter- posed between the support element and the cargo when the support is mounted on the pallet base for supporting the cargo. The illustrated form of the pallet base assembly further includes two deformable cushioning elements, mounted on the pallet base, to serve as the Principal cargo supports. Each deformable cushioning element includes an opening within which is received a removable support insert. Removal of the support insert weakens the deform- able cushioning element, allowing the element to deform, lowering the cargo onto the pallet base.
