A method of decreasing slipperiness of a plastic pallet for improved handling and stacking stability includes providing a scuffing machine having at least one wire brush positioned to scrape a pallet as it is passed through the machine, and feeding at least a portion of the pallet through the scuffing machine to scuff a surface of the pallet with the brush. Preferably, the brushes rotate as the pallet is passed through the machine. A scuffing machine and scuffed pallet are also described. The scuffed pallet provides improved handling and stacking stability.
