ABSTRACT A panel comprising a phenolic resin covering fillers, the phenolic resin being an expanded phenolic resin having a system of closed cells. A process for producing such panel is also described The process comprises mixing a filler with a fluid mixture comprising at least one phenolic resin, a hardening agent, a surface active agent and a pore forming agent chosen such that it has a boiling point less than the polycondensation temperature of the mixture and greater than the ambient temperature during mixing.
