A panel structure suitable for walls and floors has interior reinforcing members acting in compression wherein the reinforcing members are positioned in mutually supporting relation. For partition walls, the reinforcing members are supported intermediate their ends, so as to increase the buckling strut load capacity. For shallow floor panels and the like, and in the floor support system. the reinforcing members are in lateral compression. The reinforcing members may be selected from plywood, wood, particle board, wafer board, oriented strandboard, cardboard, strawboard, low, medium and high density fiberboard panels, hardboard, laminated panels and fiberglass, metal and plastic sections. The paired reinforcing members are in back-to- back, mutually supporting, mutually inclined relation. The edges of the reinforcing members may be glued to the adjoining panel face sheets. Tension elements, strapping and foamed plastic reinforcement may be used to stabilize the members.
