A process for increasing the tactile properties of a base web (38) without adversely effecting the strength of the web (38) is disclosed. In one embodiment, the process includes the steps of placing a base web (38) between a first moving conveyor (60) and a second moving conveyor (62). The conveyors are then wrapped around a shear-inducing roll (64) which creates shear forces that act upon the base web. The shear forces disrupt the web (38), increasing the softness and decreasing the stiffness of the web (38). The shear-inducing roll (64) typically has a relatively small diameter. In some applications, more than one shear-inducing roll (64) may be incorporated into the system. Base webs (38) made according to the present invention have been found to have improved void-volume and fuzz-on-edge properties.

L'invention concerne un procédé permettant d'augmenter les propriétés tactiles d'une bande de base sans modifier la résistance de cette dernière.
