The present invention relates to a parachute ground disconnecting device. The device comprises a lock/release mechanism for keeping a link assembly connected to a parachute in a holding position during a predetermined time interval and after elapse of the predetermined time interval for releasing the link assembly when a predetermined portion of a payload force is below a predetermined release threshold. The device is highly advantageous by providing a simple, yet highly flexible, design for numerous payload ranges.
