A twin beam parallelogram-type lift axle suspension system includes a bi-directional airlift spring having opposite end plates at either end thereof located between two parallel control arms wherein expansion of the air spring pivots the upper and lower control arms with respect to a frame bracket thereby lifting an axle and wheels attached thereto from engagement with the road surface. The end plates of the bi-directional air spring move about equally in opposite directions and remain substantially parallel to one another throughout expansion and contraction of the air spring so as to about equally distribute forces of expansion of the air spring between the upper and lower control arms. The system of the instant invention also includes a shock absorber having one end attached to the upper control arm and another end attached to the lower control arm so as to locate the shock absorber forward of the axle thereby minimizing shock travel and maximizing shock life. The upper control arm is pivotally connected to an axle seat by a bolt including an eccentric cam mechanism which allows one to adjust the caster angle of the axle when the need arises.

Cette invention concerne une suspension de pont tandem autovireur à essieu relevable qui comprend un soufflet pneumatique bidirectionnel portant à ses deux extrémités opposées des plaques de bout et situé entre deux bras de suspension parallèles, la dilatation du soufflet ayant pour effet de faire pivoter les bras de suspension supérieur et inférieur par rapport à une ferrure du châsssis et de relever ainsi l'essieu et les roues y attachées hors de contact avec la route. Les plaques de bout du soufflet pneumatique bidirectionnel ont une course en sens opposées à peu près égale et demeurent sensiblement parallèles en cours de dilatation et contraction du soufflet de manière à répartir la force d'expansion/contraction à peu près uniformément entre les bras de suspension supérieur et inférieur. La suspension objet de l'invention comprend également un amortisseur fixé par un bout au bras de suspension supérieur et par l'autre bout au bras de suspension inférieur de manière à se trouver à l'avant de l'essieu pour un débattement réduit et une durée de vie prolongée. Le bras de suspension supérieur est articulé à un siège d'essieu au moyen d'un boulon à came excentrique permettant de modifier l'angle de chasse de l'essieu au besoin.
