A protein with anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory functions was identified and isolated from the excretory/secretions of a human parasite Schistosoma mansoni. This protein, designated herein as Sm 16.8, is released by schistosomes upon entry into human skin. Under in vitro conditions Sm 16.8 is shown to stimulate the production of anti-inflammatory cytokine Interleukin- 1 receptor antagonist (IL-1ra) in human keratinocytes and transcriptionally down regulate the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-1 .alpha. and IL- 1 .beta..
Protéine ayant des fonctions anti-inflammatoires et immunomodulatrices, identifiée et isolée dans les excrétions/sécrétions d'un parasite de l'homme, Schistosoma mansoni. Cette protéine, désignée ci-après par Sm 16.8, est dégagée par les schistosomes dans la peau de l'homme. Dans les conditions in vitro, on constate que Sm 16.8 stimule la production dans les kératinocytes de l'homme de cytokine anti-inflammatoire et antagoniste de récepteurs de l'Interleukine-1 (IL-1ra) et rétro-régule transcriptionnellement la production de cytokines IL-1 .alpha. et IL1 .beta. qui favorisent l'inflammation.
