Pretreatment method and apparatus to remove matrix ions from a liquid sample, prior to separation of the sample analytes (e.g. by chromatography), by flowing the liquid sample into a sample compartment (16) and stopping the flow. The sample compartment has a wall comprising an ion exchange membrane (12, 14) having exchangeable ions of the same charge as the matrix ions to be removed. A regenerant liquid stream (22, 24) flows through a regenerant flow compartment (18, 20) on the other side of the membrane from said parked liquid sample. Matrix ions in the parked liquid sample are transported across the membrane into the regenerant flow compartment (18, 20). Suppression may be performed electrolytically and/or chemically. A concentrator column may also be used.

L'invention concerne un procédé et un dispositif de prétraitement permettant de supprimer des ions de matrice dans un échantillon liquide, avant la séparation des analytes de l'échantillon (par exemple, par chromatographie). On procède comme suit : transfert de l'échantillon dans un compartiment d'échantillonnage (16) et arrêt du flux. Le compartiment présente une paroi à membrane échangeuse d'ions (12, 14) qui comporte des ions échangeables de charge identique à celle des ions de matrice à supprimer. Un flux liquide régénérant (22, 24) traverse un compartiment de flux régénérant (18, 20) de l'autre côté de la membrane par rapport à l'échantillon stocké : les ions de matrice dans cet échantillon sont transférés à travers la membrane dans le compartiment . (18, 20). La suppression peut être électrolytique et/ou chimique. On peut aussi utiliser une colonne de concentrateur.
