A process for partially oxidizing and converting a polyoxyalkylene polyol composition to a polycarboxylic acid composition comprising reacting a polyoxyalkylene polyol composition with a stable free radical nitroxide in the presence of an NO x, generating compound, a flow of air or oxygen, and optionally water, at elevated temperatures. The oxidation reaction is discontinued by deactivating the catalyst and removing the source of air or oxygen, the NO x generating source, and the optional water. From 60% to no more than 95% of the primary hydroxyl groups in the polyoxyalkylene polyol composition is converted.
L'invention concerne un procédé d'oxydation et de conversion partielles d'une composition de polyols de polyoxyalkylène en composition d'acide polycarboxylique, qui consiste à faire réagir une composition de polyols de polyoxyalkylène avec un nitroxyde radicalaire libre stable en présence d'un composé générateur de NOx, un courant d'air ou d'oxygène et, facultativement, de l'eau, à des températures élevées. Pour interrompre la réaction d'oxydation, on désactive le catalyseur et on retire la source d'air ou d'oxygène, la source génératrice de NOx et, éventuellement, l'eau. De 60 % à au maximum 95 % des groupes hydroxyles de la composition de polyols de polyoxyalkylène sont convertis.
