The invention relates to a particle accelerator for radiotherapy by means of ion beams (150). The particle accelerator comprises a sixfold synchrotron ring (100) with six rectilinear beam sections (1 to 6) and six curved beam sections (7 to 12). Injection means (43) for introducing a linear-accelerated ion beam into the synchrotron ring (100) are situated on a first rectilinear beam section (1) of the six rectilinear beam sections (1-6). At least one acceleration element (44) for the ion beam is located along the course of a second rectilinear beam section (5). Extraction means (45) for extracting the internal beam that has been rapidly accelerated during several revolutions are situated on a third (4) rectilinear beam section. Each curved beam section (7 to 12) comprises a pair of dipole magnets (13/14, 15/16, 17/18, 19/20, 21/22, 3/24). A horizontally defocusing quadrupole magnet (31 to 36) is located between each pair of dipole magnets (13/14, 15/16, 17/18, 19/20, 21/22, 23/24) and a horizontally focusing quadrupole magnet (25 to 30) is located upstream of each dipole magnet pair (13/14, 15/16, 17/18, 19/20, 21/22, 23/24).

L'invention concerne un accélérateur de particules pour la radiothérapie au moyen de faisceaux ioniques (150). L'accélérateur de particules selon l'invention comprend un anneau synchrotron sextuple (100) comprenant six trajets de faisceau rectilignes (1 à 6) et six trajets de faisceau courbes (7 à 12). Sur un premier trajet de faisceau rectiligne (1) parmi les six trajets de faisceau rectilignes (1-6) sont placés des moyens d'injection (43) servant à injecter un faisceau ionique accéléré linéairement dans l'anneau synchrotron (100). Au moins un moyen d'accélération (44) pour le faisceau ionique est situé sur le tracé d'un deuxième trajet de faisceau rectiligne (5). Sur un troisième trajet de faisceau rectiligne (4) se trouvent des moyens d'extraction (45) servant à extraire le faisceau ionique hautement accéléré après plusieurs rotations. Chaque trajet de faisceau courbe (7 à 12) présente une paire d'aimants dipolaires (13/14, 15/16, 17/18, 19/20, 21/22, 23/24). Entre chaque paire d'aimants dipolaires (13/14, 15/16, 17/18, 19/20, 21/22, 23/24) se trouve un aimant quadripolaire (31 à 36) à défocalisation horizontale, un aimant quadripolaire (25 à 30) à focalisation horizontale étant placé avant chaque paire d'aimants dipolaires (13/14, 15/16, 17/18, 19/20, 21/22, 23/24) dans le sens amont des faisceaux.
