ABSTRACT A roaster for grain or other particulate material. Chute means are provided to feed particles adjactne the bottom of a rotating drum to avoid particle bouncing and unwanted agglomeration and to improve roasting uniformity. In one embodiment, heating means are provided, including a heating tube with concentric walls and having an end open to the interior of the drum. Air including combustion air flows through the annular space between the walls and enters the inner passageway defined by the inner wall. The heating tube is connected to a burner directing flames and heated gases to the interior passageway and thence to the drum.
