A B S T R A C T PARTICLE SIZE RANGE SEPARATIONS PRIOR TO DE-WATERING An aqueous suspension of slag particles is dewatered by dividing the suspension in three fractions containing coarse, intermediate and fine particles respectively, and by dewatering the fractions separately. An aqueous suspension of slag particles obtained as a by-product in a coal gasification process is very difficult to dewater as such. By dividing such a suspension in three separate fractions and applying the most appropriate dewatering method for each fraction, this difficulty is obviated.
