ABSTRACT Particulate feed additive for ruminants. Particulate feed additive for ruminants, which comprises water-insoluble zinc complexes of one or more essential amino acids. Production takes place by reacting amino acid and water- soluble zinc salt in an amino acid to zinc salt molar ratio of 2 : 1 in an acid medium and subsequent precipitation by increasing the pH- value to 7.5. Preferably the water-insoluble complexes are mixed or enveloped with a rumen- proof matrix. The feed additive for ruminants according to the invention, compared with known feed additives, leads to a better combination of passage through the rumen and resorption in the following digestive tract of essential amino acids, so that the actual availability of the additionally administered, essential amino acids is improved.
