Abstract A non-phosphate particulate heavy duty laundry detergent includes: a mixture of a synthetic organic anionic detergent, such as sodium linear tridecyl benzene sulfonate a nonionic surface active agent, such as a higher alkyl lower alkoxylated lower alkanol; sodium silicate; sodium carbonate; an organic gum anti-redeposition agent, such as sodium carboxymethyl cellulose; built with a hydroxyalkyl iminodicarboxylate builder salt, such as disodium 2-hydroxyethyl iminodiacetate; and preferably contains a higher alkyl poly- lower alkoxylate sulfate salt. Such compositions have detersive actions equivalent to those of phosphate detergents.
