ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A particulate metal filter medium for polymer melts is characterized by a shape factor of less than 0.58, is exceptionally porous and has a high resistance to compaction at melt filtration pressures and is substantially inert to polymer melts. The particulate filtering medium is formed form an alloy containing 30 to 40% by weight chromium, about 3 % by weight silicon minor amounts of carbon and nitrogen and the remainder iron.
