A particulate metal oxide which has an evenly fluorinated surface and has higher durability with respect to properties such as water repellency, dispersibility, and light stability; a process for producing the same; and a thermoplastic resin composition containing as a pigment the particulate titanium oxide. The process, by which the particulate metal oxide can be produced extremely simply, comprises fluorinating the surface of a particulate oxide of a metal such as Ti, Al, Si, Ag, Cu, Fe, Zr, Ce, Mn, Sn, Ge, or Ta while keeping the metal oxide in a fluidized state.

Cette invention se rapporte à un oxyde de métal particulaire qui comporte une surface uniformément fluorée et qui possède une durabilité supérieure par rapport aux propriétés telles que sa répulsion pour l'eau, sa dispersibilité et sa stabilité à la lumière; ainsi qu'à un procédé de production de cet oxyde; et à une composition de résine thermoplastique contenant comme pigment de l'oxyde de titane particulaire. Le procédé par lequel cet oxyde de métal particulaire peut être produit de façon extrêmement simple consiste à fluorer la surface d'un oxyde particulaire d'un métal tel que Ti, Al, Si, Ag, Cu, Fe, Zr, Ce, Mn, Sn, Ge ou Ta, tout en maintenant l'oxyde de métal à l'état fluidifié.
