PARTICULATOR ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION Currently, impact modified thermoplastic resins are manufactured utilizing batch, stirred plug flow or continuous stirred tank reactors. In all of these techniques a non-uniform shear field is applied to the reacting mass during rubber particulation. Rubber particulation largely determines the size distribution of the dispersed phase, which in turn is one of the key determinants of product properties. Unfortunately it is difficult to provide a fairly uniform shear field to control the particle size distribution. The present invention provides a device which applies a uniform shear field to particulate a syrup or to modify the particle size distribution in a particulated syrup. As a result it is possible to optimize the particle size distribution in an impact modified thermoplastic and obtain better or a better balance of properties. The present invention also provides in cooperating arrangement a uniform shear field device and a polymerization plant. - 1 -
