A two-phase thermosyphon is an apparatus that can be used in heat recovery applications. For example, it can be used to transfer heat from warm air to cold air. A two- phase thermosyphon uses a fluid that evaporates in one of its components and condenses in another. The component in which the fluid condenses is called the "condenser" and the component in which the fluid evaporates is called the "evaporator". The present invention is a heat recovery device that employs one or more thermosyphon stages. The number of thermosyphon stages employed depends on the desired quantity of heat to recover, and the budget of the installation. Each thermosyphon stage in the present invention employs an innovative forced- convection evaporator. The forced-convection evaporator improves the performance of a thermosyphon considerably. It is described in the following specification. If there is more than one thermosyphon stage in the heat recovery device, the stages are arranged in a pattern that maximizes their performance. That pattern is referred to as an inverted cascade and is described in the following specification. The heat recovery device requires no input of energy for it to operate. It is therefore referred to as a "passive" device.
