PASTA EXTRUDER APPARATUS FOR ATTACHMENT TO A FOOD PROCESSOR OR SIMILAR APPLIANCE INVENTOR: JAMES E. WILLIAMS ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Pasta extruder apparatus is provided for attachment to a food processor or similar appliance of the type having a base containing a motor and a motor-driven rotary tool drive. This extruder apparatus includes a housing having an opening for receiving a pasta mixture which is to be extruded when the housing is operatively positioned on the base of the food processor. The housing carries actuator means for actuating cooperating actuator means in the base when the housing is operatively positioned on the base. A barrel surrounding a feedscrew is positioned in the housing with an opening in the barrel which is in alignment with the opening in the housing for receiving the pasta mixture into the barrel. An extrusion die having a plurality of extrusion orifices is mounted on the discharge end of the barrel, and a feedscrew drive is positioned on the rear end of the barrel for driving the feedscrew by coupling it to the motor-driven rotary tool drive shaft in the base of the food processor. A removable tray is mounted on the housing for feeding the pasta mixture to the attachment. The tray has a feed tube which fits into the opening in the housing such that the user can look down through the feed tube into the barrel but cannot get fingers into the extruder. The tray is removably mounted by pivoting the tray in the housing which swings a cam mounted under the tray into a groove for actuating the rod for activating the motor in the housing and at the the same time locks the feed tube in the barrel. The feedscrew drive has an indicator positioned thereon which is viewable from the top of the housing indicating the position of the top end of a socket which fits onto the tool drive shaft so that the housing may be properly placed and aligned on the tool drive shaft. A storage compartment is provided in the housing for aiding in changing the dies. A plunger having blades which fit into slots in the opening of the feed tube leading into the extruder barrel is provided, and includes a spatula handle. The pasta extruder apparatus may be conveniently mounted on the base of a food processor as an attachment having all the safety features of food processors, including an aligned actuator rod which does not activate the motor until the removable tray as well as the housing containing the rod are properly positioned on the base of the food processor. This pasta extruder attach- ment is compact, attractive, and contains the same interlock safety operating mechanism as the food processor to which it is attached. This attachment advantageously uses the motor and motor drive as they exist in the food processor base, thereby eliminating components and saving weight, space and cost.
