The present invention relates to a pa- tient care and communication system which utilizes a central processing system and a plurality of remote stations electrically con- nected to the central processing system to facilitate visual and data communications. Each remote station includes telephone cir- cuitry which is connected to a private branch exchange for telephones communications be- tween stations. In addition, the private branch exchange is connected to a telephone exchange and a plurality of telephones for facilitating telephone communication there- between. The central processing system fa- cilitates the visual and data communications between the plurality of remote stations, and includes a system for determining which of the plurality of remote stations are transmit- ting the visual and data communications and which of the plurality of remote stations are to receive the visual and data communica- tions. The central processing system also includes a system which establishes a com- munication link between the transmitting sta- tions and the receiving stations. The remote stations include a processing system which also facilitates the visual, data and telephone communications and a display for displaying the visual communications. The present invention also includes a staff and/or patient locator system, in which each remote station includes an infrared receiver that receives infrared transmissions from a portable transmitter worn by a staff member or patient. The infrared transmissions include identity information associated with the person wearing the transmitter. The identity information is then transferred to the central processing system which determines the identity and location of each person wearing a portable transmitter.
Système de soins et de transmission d'informatios pour patients basé sur un processeur central et plusieurs stations à distance raccordées électriquement au processeur central pour assurer la transmission d'informations visuelles et de données. Chacune des stations distantes comporte un circuit téléphonique la reliant à un central secondaire servant aux communications entre stations, lui même relié à un central principal et à plusieurs téléphones. Le processeur central assure la transmission d'informations visuelles et de données entre les différentes stations distantes et comporte un dispositif permettant de déterminer quelles stations parmi les stations distantes sont en train de transmettre les informations visuelles et les données et quelles stations sont censées recevoir ces signaux. Le système comporte également un dispositif d'établissement de communications entre stations émettrices et réceptrices. Les stations à distance comportent pour leur part un processeur qui assure également la transmission d'information visuelles, de données et de communications téléphoniques, et un écran de présentation des messages visuels. L'invention comporte en outre un système de localisation du personnel et des patients, comprenant un récepteur IF par station distante, et recevant les messages d'émetteurs portatifs portés par le personnel et le patient. Les liaisons IF comprennent des informations d'identité associées aux porteurs des émetteurs. Ces informations d'identité sont ensuite transférées au processeur central qui détermine l'identité et la localisation de chacun des porteurs d'émetteurs.
