A MIMO communications system includes a transmitter, and a transmit antenna array connected to the transmitter and having M antenna elements for transmitting M source signals. A receive antenna array is connected to a receiver and has N antenna elements for receiving at least M different summations of the M source signals, with N being less than M. A signal separation processor is connected to the receiver for forming a mixing matrix that includes the at least M different' summations of the M source signals so that the mixing matrix has a rank equal to at least M. The signal separation processor separates desired source signals from the mixing matrix.
L'invention porte sur un système de communications MIMO comprenant un émetteur auquel est reliée une matrice d'antennes d'émission pourvue de M éléments d'antenne pour la transmission de M signaux source. Une matrice d'antennes de réception est reliée à un récepteur et possède N éléments d'antenne pour la réception d'au moins M sommations différentes des signaux source, N étant inférieur à M. Un processeur de séparation des signaux est raccordé au récepteur pour former une matrice de mélange comprenant au moins M sommations différentes des M signaux source de sorte que la matrice de mélange ait un niveau égal à au moins M. Le processeur de séparation des signaux sépare les signaux source désirés de la matrice de mélange.
