The paving system has a perforated pavement (1) covering a deep substrate of mainly hard nodules or shells, the whole being surrounded by impervious walls (5) to provide temporary storage in the interstices for chemical spillage or flood water, wherein liquids may be chemically treated or biologically decomposed, and whence the rate of outflow may be regulated. The pavement may consist of preformed pavings of brick, concrete or other material, laid edge to edge without mortar or cement. These pavings may be perforated or notched to allow liquids to run down into the substrate. The pavings are laid on a screen (2, 3) which filters out solid particles to stop the system clogging. This system allows biological substances to grow, or be introduced with or without additional nutrients, or chemical treatments to be introduced, from above, when needed. The whole pavement system can be lifted out for cleaning or substitution, and relaid as new.

Système de dallage possédant un dallage perforé (1) recouvrant un substrat profond composé principalement de nodules ou de coquilles durs, l'ensemble étant entouré par des parois imperméables (5), dont les interstices permettent d'emmagasiner temporairement les écoulements chimiques ou les eaux d'inondation, ce qui favorise le traitement chimique ou la décomposition biologique de liquides et, de ce fait, la régulation de leur débit d'évacuation. Ce dallage peut être constitué par des dalles préformées en brique, en béton ou en un autre matériau, posées côte-à-côte sans mortier ni ciment. Ces dalles peuvent comporter des perforations ou des encoches, afin de permettre aux liquides de s'écouler vers le bas à l'intérieur du substrat. Ces dalles sont posées sur un tamis (2, 3), qui élimine les particules solides par filtration, afin d'empêcher l'obstruction du système. Ce système permet d'effectuer la culture de substances biologiques ou de les introduire avec ou sans éléments nutritifs supplémentaires ou de faire pénétrer des agents de traitement chimique depuis le haut, si nécessaire. On peut soulever la totalité du système et l'extraire, afin de le nettoyer ou de le remplacer et le reposer à l'état neuf.
