A system (11) for interfacing a pay-per-view CATV system with the switched public network telephone system is disclosed. In a conventional switched public network telephone system having at least one central office switch (10) and a plurality of subscriber loops (16) operatively coupled to the central office switch (10), each subscriber loop (16) is identified by an originating telephone number. The subscriber selects a specific one of the scheduled television programming events by calling a telephone number which uniquely identifies the selected event. The called and originating numbers are identified, digitized and combined to form a digital word. The digital word is then transmitted to the CATV supplier (30).
