This invention concerns the discovery of two distinct PCA3 mRNA sequences. One of these sequences corresponds to a short PCA3 mRNA mole-cule whereas the other PCA3 RNA molecule is longer as it comprises an additional sequence between exon 3 and exon 4a. The short RNA is associated with prostate cancer whereas the long RNA sequence is associated with a non-malignant state of the prostate. Based on the differential expression levels of these two PCA3 RNA sequences, protocols for the diagnosis of prostate dis-ease are provided. The invention also relates to thera-peutic approaches to prostate cancer.
L'invention porte sur la découverte de deux séquences distinctes de l'ARNm du PCA3 dont l'une correspond à une molécule courte de l'ARNm du PCA3, et l'autre à une molécule plus longue en ce qu'elle comporte une séquence additionnelle comprise entre l'exon 3 et l'exon 4. L'ARN court est associé au cancer de la prostate, tandis que l'ARN long l'est à des troubles non malins de la prostate. On a ainsi pu établir des protocoles de diagnostic des pathologies de la prostate basés sur les niveaux différentiels d'expression des deux séquences de l'ARNm du PCA3.
