An electronic user interface such as a personal data assistant (PDA) based interface system is providing for calibrating, setting, adjusting, monitoring, and/or diagnosing faults in a power steering system for a powered rotary trowel. The PDA is configured to permit the user to navigate through a number of screens permitting rapid and user friendly access to the various functions by relatively untrained personnel. The PDA is also configured to enable the system's CPU to interface with a remote computer to permit the installation of new or upgraded software in the CPU. Some functions preferably are bifurcated so as to provide broad access to skilled maintenance personnel, while providing more limited access to the users.
