A fixed cutter drill bit is designed. The fixed cutter drill bit is simulated drilling in an earth formation. At least one performance characteristic is determined for the fixed cutter drill bit. A side rake angle of at least one cutter of the fixed cutter drill bit is adjusted. The simulating, the determining and the adjusting is repeated until the at least one performance characteristic meets a selected criterion.
