ABSTRACT A harvesting machine is disclosed comprising a main framework, a sub- frame supported on the main framework through the intermediary of support means including at least one hydraulic actuator arranged at a transversely disposed location of the machine between the main and sub-frames, a crop pick-up device mounted on the sub-frame, ground-sensing means arranged to contact the ground, and a hydraulic circuit providing communication between the hydraulic actuator(s) and a pressure-fluid source. The circuit includes a pressure-limiting valve in fluid communication with the hydraulic actuator(s) the operation of the pressure-limiting valve to control the pressure in the hydraulic circuit being dependent by the direct fluid communication with the valve only upon the pressure of the fluid in the hydraulic actuator(s) which is, in turn, dependent upon the ground contours as sensed by the ground-sensing means, and the pressure delivered by the source, the pressure- fluid being effective to support through the hydraulic actuator(s) a propor- tion of the weight of the sub-frame, the remainder being supported by the sensing means.
