PEDESTRIAN TRAFFIC SIGNAL HEAD Abstract of the Disclosure The housing of a pedestrian traffic signal head includes an open front and two opposite sides, a first pair of bosses with hinge-pin-receiving passages formed on one side of the housing, a second pair of bosses with hinge-pin-receiving passages formed on the top of the open front, and a third pair of bosses with hinge-pin-receiving passages formed on the bottom of the open front. A lens door having a fourth pair of bosses with hinge-pin- receiving passages on its top covers the open front of the housing. A pair of removable hinge pins connect the second or third pair of bosses, depending upon whether the housing is right-hand or left-hand mounted, to the fourth pair of bosses to permit the door to pivot downwardly to open, irrespective of the side of the pole on which the housing is mounted. The housing and the lens door cooperate to capture the removable hinge pins when the door is pivoted closed and to free the removably hinge pins when the door is pivoted open. A single-piece, side- mounted bracket attaches directly to the housing. A pair of hinge pins are formed on the bracket to removably and pivotally connect either side of the housing to the bracket. The bracket has a cavity in which a terminal block resides for making the electrical connection between wiring of the post and wiring of the pedestrian traffic signal head. The bracket has hinge pins that are directly attached to side bosses. The side bosses are cast as part of the housing in a one-piece construction. A sunscreen having a unique grate design is disposed over the front of the lens. The grate consists of a lattice formed from zigzagging rows of interconnected strips, with pointed corners along one side and truncated corners along the other side. Adjacent rows of the strips are aligned so that the truncated corners of one row are interconnected to the pointed corners of the adjacent row.
