ABSTRACT The runner of a Pelton hydraulic turbine is manufactured in that the individual buckets (3) are welded to each other to form a collar and a ring (2) is formed on the inner side of the collar, this ring being welded to the outer edge of the wheel disk (1) to form the runner. In one embodiment with two welded seams (4) that are adjacent to each other in the axial direction, a closed chamber (5) is formed between the ring (2) and the wheel disk (1), this chamber being filled with pressurized fluid. In the event that the pressure within the chamber (5) drops as a consequence of fatigue cracks, an alarm signal is triggered by means of a pressure sensor (9) and the machine is stopped before the runner breaks up. The ring (2) can, for example, be manufactured by shaping build-up welding. (Figure 1)
