The invention relates to a PEM fuel cell with a new edge construction, whereby a water reservoir (14) is formed in a minute gap between the membrane (2) and the edge seal (5, 6). Said reservoir substantially improves the utilization time of a polymer electrolyte membrane, especially with respect to dry process gases.
