ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Penicillanic acid derivatives which have an excellent antibacterial action particularly against bacteria belonging to family Pseudomonas aeruginosa and are represented by the formula Image wherein R1 is selected from the group consisting of a hydrogen atom and a lower alkyl group; R2 is selected from the group consisting of a hydrogen atom and a hydroxyl group; R3 is selected from the group consisting of a hydroxyl group or a lower alkanoyloxy group; n is 2 or 3; and at least two of R3 are bonded to adjacent carbon atoms, the position of the substituted R3 being selected from the 3 to 5 positions wherein R1 is a lower alkyl group and R3 is a hydroxyl group, and from 2 to 6 positions wherein R1 and R3 are other substituents, and the pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof. A process for pre- paring these compounds is also disclosed.
