A monoclonal antibody to a steroid hormone is used for the isolation from a combinatorial peptide library of a peptide mimicking the biological activity of said steroid hormone. Peptides having estrogenic-like and progestational- like activity were synthesized and assayed for their ability to compete with the respective steroid hormone for binding to the monoclonal antibody and for binding to said steroid hormone receptor. Peptides having estrogenic-like activity were found to be selective to estrogen receptor alpha or beta and thus may have more clinical applications than the non-selective steroid hormone estradiol.

La présente invention concerne un anticorps monoclonal d'une hormone stéroïde utilisé pour isoler d'une bibliothèque combinatoire de peptides un peptide imitant l'activité biologique de ces hormones stéroïdes. Des peptides possédant une activité de type oestrogénique et de type progestationnel ont été synthétisés et on a analysé leur capacité à concurrencer l'hormone stéroïde respective dans sa fixation à l'anticorps monoclonal et dans sa fixation au récepteur de cette hormone stéroïde. On a découvert que des peptides ayant une activité de type oestrogénique étaient sélectifs quant au récepteur alpha ou bêta d'oestrogène, et ces peptides peuvent avoir des applications cliniques plus nombreuses que l'oestradiol d'hormone stéroïde non sélectif.
