A percutaneous dilation (10) apparatus is shown. The apparatus is useful for forming and enlarging percutaneous penetrations to a variety of target locations within a patient's body for multiple purposes. The apparatus includes an at least one dilator segment (16), a dilator probe (12), and a mechanism (14) for moving each dilator segment along the dilator probe so as to place it within the penetration thereby dilating the penetration.

L'appareil selon l'invention est utile pour former et agrandir des ouvertures percutanées donnant accès à divers emplacements cibles dans le corps d'un patient, à des fins multiples. L'appareil selon l'invention comprend au moins un segment dilatateur (16), une sonde dilatatrice (12) et un mécanisme (14) permettant de déplacer chaque segment dilatateur le long de la sonde dilatatrice afin de le placer à l'intérieur de l'ouverture, ce qui permet de dilater cette dernière.
