This invention is an apparatus and method for introducing a catheter into a surgically implanted port. The apparatus has a housing attached to a stylet (22), with the stylet (22) being received in a catheter (42). Also provided in the apparatus is a casing with a protective cap (58) that slidably fits within the housing (20). Also disclosed is a method of catheterizing a surgically implanted port by means of inserting a stylet encased in a catheter and retracting the stylet.

Cette invention se rapporte à un appareil et à un procédé pour introduire un cathéter dans un orifice de passage implanté par voie chirurgicale. Cet appareil comprend un logement fixé à un stylet (22), lequel est logé dans le cathéter (42). L'appareil comporte également un boîtier ayant un capuchon protecteur (58) qui s'adapte coulissant dans le logement (20). Cette invention concerne également un procédé pour la mise en place d'un cathéter dans un orifice de passage implanté par voie chirurgicale, ce procédé consistant à introduire dans ce trou un stylet logé dans un cathéter, puis à retirer le stylet.
