An implantable device including a housing having a stud projecting percutaneously through an incision in the patient's skin. The stud defines a peripheral surface extending longitudinally inwardly from the stud outer end. The longitudinal peripheral surface is used as a substrate to carry a peripheral fibrous layer which extends longitudinally along the stud from its outer end adjacent to the skin incision to below the patient's epidermal and dermal skin layers for promoting laterally directed soft tissue ingrowth. The housing also defines a lateral shoulder surface oriented substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal peripheral surface. The shoulder surface, when implanted, is located just inwardly from the patient's outer skin surface. The shoulder surface also carries a porous layer conducive to promoting tissue ingrowth. The provision of both lateral and longitudinal porous layers on the device allows tissue ingrowth, i.e., tissue growth into the interstices of both porous layers to form an enhanced infection resistant barrier while also providing improved device anchoring.
L'invention concerne un dispositif implantable comprenant un compartiment pourvu d'une tige saillant de manière percutanée à travers une incision dans la peau du patient. La tige définit une surface périphérique s'étendant longitudinalement vers l'intérieur à partir de l'extrémité extérieure de la tige. La surface périphérique longitudinale est utilisée comme substrat pour supporter une couche fibreuse périphérique s'étendant longitudinalement le long de la tige depuis son extrémité extérieure adjacente à l'incision dans la peau jusqu'en dessous des couches cutanées épidermique et dermique du patient, ce qui favorise une croissance interne du tissu mou dirigée latéralement. Le compartiment définit également une surface d'épaulement latérale orientée de manière sensiblement perpendiculaire par rapport à la surface périphérique longitudinale. Lors d'une implantation, la surface d'épaulement est située juste à l'intérieur par rapport à la surface cutanée extérieure du patient. La surface d'épaulement supporte également une couche poreuse contribuant à favoriser la croissance interne du tissu. L'utilisation des couches poreuses latérale et longitudinale sur le dispositif permet d'obtenir une croissance interne du tissu, soit une croissance du tissu dans les interstices des deux couches poreuses, et de former une barrière résistante aux infections améliorée tout en assurant un meilleur ancrage pour le dispositif.
