A readily tearable packaging tape provided. The packaging tape comprises an elongate main body portion of substantially constant cross section having a generally centrally disposed longitudinal axis, a thickness defined by a top surface and a bottom surface, a width defined by a pair of side edges, and a length defined by a first end and a second end and with a coating of adhesive applied to the bottom surface. There are a plurality of tear-inducing cuts formed in the main body portion disposed along the length thereof, such that the packaging tape exhibits the characteristic of ready tearibility at the tear-inducing cuts so as to cause those cuts to developinto elongate tears in the tape, and so as to thereby ultimately cause the tape to separate into at least two portions. The main body portion of the packaging tape exhibits the characteristic of being resistant to tearing, other than in the region of the elongate tears. There is also provided a mechanism for effecting the tear-inducing cuts in the packaging tape, including an axle member, a pair of tape guide members to receive a portion of the non-adhesive side of said packaging tape, a support surface for the tape, and a tape cutting member mounted on the axle for rotational movement and having at least one tape cutting portion extending beyond the support surface. The tape cutting portion is shaped and dimensioned to effect the tear-inducing cuts in the packaging tape by intermittently engaging and making the tear-inducing cuts in the packaging tape as the packaging tape is drawn lengthwise across the support surface.
L'invention concerne une bande adhésive pour emballages, facile à déchirer. La bande adhésive est constituée d'une portion de corps principale allongée ayant une section transversale sensiblement constante et un axe longitudinal sensiblement central, une épaisseur définie par une surface supérieure et une surface inférieure, une largeur définie par une paire de bords latéraux et une longueur définie par des première et seconde extrémités. La bande porte une couche d'adhésif sur sa surface inférieure. La bande adhésive comporte une série de coupures formées dans la portion de corps principale et disposées suivant sa longueur, pour faciliter le déchirement. La bande adhésive a la propriété de se déchirer facilement au niveau des coupures, en formant de longues déchirures qui, en fin de compte, provoquent la séparation de la bande au moins en deux parties. La portion de corps principale de la bande adhésive résiste bien aux déchirures dans toutes les parties autres que celles des coupures allongées. L'invention concerne également un mécanisme pour réaliser les coupures facilitant le déchirement, comprenant un axe de rotation, deux éléments de guidage de la bande pour recevoir une portion du côté non adhésif de la bande adhésive, une surface de support pour la bande, un élément pour couper la bande monté sur l'axe de rotation pour effectuer un mouvement de rotation et ayant au moins une portion pour couper la bande s'étendant sous la surface de support. La portion pour couper la bande est formée et dimensionnée pour réaliser les coupures facilitant le déchirement dans la bande adhésive, en s'engageant d'une manière intermittente avec la bande adhésive pour y former les coupures facilitant le déchirement, à mesure que la bande adhésive est tirée longitudinalement sur la surface de support.
