A method and apparatus for making perforated thermoplastic floor covering are disclosed in which molten plastic is extruded through a die to form a molten web. The molten web is fed through a nip formed by a pair of rollers, one of the rollers having at least one raised perforating edge to create a line of perforations substantially across the width of the molten web. The web is then cooled to set the thermoplastic. The perforating roller is formed with at least one elongated slot along its outer surface, the slot being substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the roller. A steel blade having an edge with alternating voids and projections is secured in the slot with the alternating voids and projections extending out of the slot past the surface of the roller.
