A perfume containing (6E)-2,3-dihydrofarnesol represented by the following general formula (I): (see formula I) which has a purity of the trans form of more than 50 % by weight, is disclosed. A muguet perfume containing the above compound is excellent in fragrance qualities and having a high safety without any sensitization and an antimicrobial activity.
