A period-to-digital converter includes a clock (1) for generating a timing signal, delay lines (2) for producing cumulatively incrementally delayed timing signals for each cycle of the timing signal and an isolator (3) connected in parallel to the delay lines for generating a signal indicative of a number of partial cycles of the timing signal corresponding to which of the incrementally delayed timing signals last contained a specific feature. First and second counters (5, 8) connected to the isolator are enabled for successive time periods to be measured and first and second latches (11, 12) respectively connected to the first and second counters are latched at the end of alternate successive time periods respectively. An arithmetic module (22) connected to the first and second latches obtains difference values between their output values, which difference values are representative of the successive time periods respectively.

L'invention concerne un convertisseur période-numérique qui comprend: une horloge (1) qui permet de générer un signal de synchronisation; des lignes de retard (2) qui permettent de produire des signaux de synchronisation retardés de manière incrémentielle et cumulative pour chaque cycle du signal de synchronisation; et un isolateur (3) relié en parallèle aux lignes de retard (2), qui permet de générer un signal indiquant un nombre de cycles partiels du signal de synchronisation correspondant au dernier des signaux de synchronisation retardés de manière incrémentielle et cumulative qui contient une caractéristique spécifique. Un premier et un deuxième compteur (5, 8) reliés à l'isolateur sont activés pendant des périodes temporelles successives à mesurer, et un premier et un deuxième verrou (11, 12) respectivement reliés au premier et au deuxième compteur (5, 8) sont verrouillés à la fin des périodes temporelles successives alternées, respectivement. Un module arithmétique (22) relié au premier et au deuxième verrou permet d'obtenir des valeurs de différence entre leur valeur de sortie, ces valeurs de différence représentant les périodes temporelles successives, respectivement.
