A peripheral unit utilizes a satellite communication link to provide multi-video conferencing for users not connected to the ground network. The peripheral unit allows for the connection of several remote rooms through a satellite network with a land-based control centre and land-based conference sites. The peripheral unit is connected to a satellite transceiver and the video/audio equipment at a conference room site. The peripheral unit is responsive to control commands from the control centre and provides switching and synchronization of video and audio information associated with the conferencing.
Une unité périphérique utilise une liaison de communication par satellites afin d'établir des conférences vidéo pour des utilisateurs non connectés au réseau terrestre. L'unité périphérique de l'invention permet de connecter plusieurs salles éloignées par l'intermédiaire d'un réseau à satellites comportant un centre de contrôle terrestre et des sites de conférence terrestres. Elle est connectée à un émetteur-récepteur de communication par satellites et au matériel audio-vidéo d'une salle de conférence. Elle réagit aux commandes transmises par le centre de commande et effectue des opérations de commutation et de synchronisation sur les signaux vidéo et audio de la conférence.
