The application relates to a surgical instrument for at least partially occluding a body conduit comprising a first jaw (14), a second jaw (16) opposing the first jaw (14) and moveable relative to the first jaw (14) to occlude the conduit (12), and an insert (43, 44) being mounted by at least one of the first and second jaws (14, 16) with a length of the insert (43, 44) extending along at least one of the first and second jaws (14, 16). One of the first and second jaws (14, 16) may further comprise a retention barb to provide a friction fit with the insert (43, 44). The insert (43, 44) is flexible, disposable and may be formed by injection molding. The retention barb may be a three-sided or multiple-sided barb that is formed at the proximal end of at least one of the first and second jaws (14, 16).
