ABSTRACT An anterior cruciate ligament prosthesis compris- ing two strands of high tenacity polyolefin fiber affixed to a single button at their proximal end. A loop is formed at a distal end of each strand. A removable guide thread is attached to the distal end of each loop. The removable thread is of sufficient to thread each strand through the knee from the proximal point of attachment to a distal point of attachment. Each strand is composed of a plurality of individual fine filaments and has a breaking strand of at least 1000 pounds and a diameter of between 2 and 6 milli- meters.
