Abstract of the Disclosure A method of protecting an electric permanent magnet motor (energized by a rectifying bridge which comprises at least two thyristors) against thermal overloading owing to accidental blocking of the driven element. With the aid of an electronic circuit the small residual voltage (of a polarity opposite to that of the supply voltage) which appears at the terminals of the rotor of the motor during the second portion of each power supply half-cycle and which persists at the beginning of the next half-cycle, is selectively amplified; to the amplified voltage a fraction of the total voltage at the motor terminals is opposed and the resulting integrated and filtered voltage is utilized for controlling a transistor which substantially cuts off the power supply to the motor when said motor is blocked owing to the driven element being blocked. The described method is especially intended to be used for protecting motors of laundry washing machines.
