Permanent-magnetic hydrodynamic methods and apparatus stabilize a moving, flexible, thin-gauge, heat-conducting, magnetically soft ferromag- netic casting belt (50) against thermal distortion while moving along a mold cavity (C) being heated at its front surface by heat coming from molten metal being cast while being cooled at its reversed surfaces by flowing pumped liquid coolant. Hydro-magnetic devices (38) are arranged in an array (51) wherein flows of pumped coolant (93) pass through fixedly throttling pas- sageways (90) feeding pressure pockets facing the belt's reverse surface. These pockets are shown rimmed by magnetic pole faces (34). Coolant is- sues from the pressure pockets as fast-moving films to cool the belt's reverse surface and levitate the belt spaced from the pole faces while the belt is sta- bilized in even condition by powerful reach-out magnetic attraction forces.

Méthodes et appareil hydrodynamiques à magnétisme permanent qui permettent de stabiliser un tapis de coulée (50) ferromagnétique continu flexible et mobile, a conduction thermique, de faible épaisseur et magnétiquement doux, pour protéger ledit tapis contre la distorsion d'origine thermique lorsque celui-ci est déplacé le long d'une cavité de moule (C), chauffée du côté de la surface frontale par la chaleur provenant d'un métal en fusion que l'on coule, tandis que les surfaces opposées de ladite cavité sont refroidies par écoulement d'un liquide de refroidissement pompé. Des dispositifs hydromagnétiques (38) sont disposés selon un schéma (51) permettant aux flux de liquide de refroidissement pompé (93) de passer par des passages d'étranglement fixe (90) et d'alimenter les poches de pression situées face au revers du tapis. Lesdites poches sont entourées de faces magnétiques polaires (34). Le liquide de refroidissement sort des poches de pression sous forme de pellicules à déplacement rapide qui refroidissent le revers du tapis et assurent la suspension de ce dernier, ledit tapis étant éloigné des faces polaires et maintenu dans un état égal par de puissantes forces d'attraction magnétique proche.
