ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A personal floatation device includes a pair of chest panels and a neck piece interconnecting the top ends of the chest panels and extending behind the neck of a wearer of the deivce during use. The chest panels may be integral with the neck piece and inflatable. A central plane extending through the chest panels generally parallel to the chest of the user intersects a central plane passing through the neck piece generally parallel to the top of the user's back at an angle of 60 to 110°, preferably 80 to 90°.
