Abstract OF THE DISCLOSURE A computer controlled color graphics printer which responds to input of personal information to provide an output of both personalized text and graphics which may be in the form of a greeting card, a poster or the like. The apparatus includes an input device such as a card reader which responds to personalized data indicated on a card by a customer or user, and means for storing temporarily the personalized data. The apparatus includes means for inputting and storing at least one standard pictorial background display plus appropriate text. The apparatus includes further means for converting the personalized data inputted by the card reader into control signals for pictorial as well as text production appropriate to the background selected and the personalized data inputted The apparatus includes pictorial and textual output means which respond to the combination of background and personal data input to produce a personalized pictorial and textual document. The method of this invention involves the recording of personalized data, the storage of at least one standard data which includes pictorial information, the method of converting at least some of the personalized data into pictorial representations, combining the standardized pictorial and textual data with the personalized converted pictorial data plus textual data and printing a pictorial and textual product containing the appropriate mixed standard and personalized data.
