A pet food product and process for producing the pet food product for use in maintenance of healthy joints and alleviation of arthritic symptoms in companion animals, the pet food comprising an effective amount of an active extract of Perna canaliculus. The extract can be either a powder or lipid extract. Preferably in an amount that provides for a dosage range of generally 0.18 to 114 mg of a powder extract/kg of body weight/day in a companion animal or an amount of generally 1.5 to 1000 mg of a powder extract of Perna canaliculus per 400 kcal of pet food product.
La présente invention concerne un produit alimentaire et un procédé de production de ce produit destiné au maintien d'articulations saines et à alléger des symptômes d'arthrite chez des animaux de compagnie, cet aliment comprenant une quantité efficace d'extrait actif de Perna canaliculus. L'extrait peut se présenter sous forme de poudre ou d'extrait lipidique. Pour un animal de compagnie, la quantité correspond, de préférence, à un domaine de dosage de 0,18 à 114 mg d'extrait en poudre/kg de poids corporel/jour ou à une quantité généralement de 1,5 à 1000 mg d'extrait en poudre de Perna canaliculus par 400 kcal de produit alimentaire.
