Cellulose esters according to formula (I): [(C6H7O2)(OR)x(OR')y(OH)3-x-y]n are described, where R is hydrophobic, R' is hydrophilic and not phthalyl or trimellityl, which may be designed, by the proper selection of R, R', x, y, and n, to dissolve under mild to alkaline conditions, and not before. A coating comprising a modified ester according to formula (I) may be used for controlled-release applications, particularly for a cleaning formulation.

Cette invention concerne des esters de cellulose correspondant à la formule (I): [(C¿6?H¿7?O¿2?) (OR)¿x?(OR')¿y?(OH)¿3-x-y?]¿n? où R est hydrophobe tandis que R' est hydrophile et représente un élément différent de phtalyle ou trimellityle. En choisissant de manière adéquate les éléments R, R', x, y et n, il est possible d'obtenir des esters de cellulose qui se dissolvent dans des conditions douces à alcalines, mais pas avant que ces conditions soient atteintes. Cette invention concerne également un revêtement comprenant un ester modifié correspondant à la formule (I), lequel revêtement peut être utilisé dans des applications à émission progressive, notamment dans une composition de nettoyage.
